The newly redrawn 4th Congressional District includes all of Durham, Franklin, Granville, and Orange counties. The redrawn district also includes much of central and eastern Chatham County (including Pittsboro), northeastern Wake County (including Wake Forest), and the southern tip of Vance County. The redrawn district is considered safely Democratic.
North Carolina's congressional district map was redrawn by the North Carolina General assembly in November 2019, in accordance with a preliminary injunction from North Carolina state Superior Court. The court found that the previous congressional district map showed signs of extreme partisan gerrymandering, contrary to the North Carolina State Constitution.
