THE DANGERS of PROJECT 2025

Project 2025 is an unprecedented extreme Republican plan to fundamentally change the American government, consolidating power in the executive branch and rolling back or eliminating our constitutionally protected rights and freedoms.   While the Trump campaign has attempted to distance itself from the document, their “Agenda 47” platform features many of the same concepts. The following are some highlights of the Project 2025 plan.

EDUCATION

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Eliminating the Department of Education, which would drastically reduce the ability of the federal government to support quality elementary and secondary education and ensure appropriate access by all children 
     

  • Eliminating the school lunch program and free school lunches
     

  • Eliminating the Head Start preschool program 
     

  • Phasing out or eliminating various programs that support and assist Americans with heavy student loan burdens

WORKERS AND COLLECTIVE BARGAINING

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Eliminating federal minimum wage and overtime protections 
     

  • Raising the retirement age 
     

  • Reinstating Schedule F to allow dismissal or mistreatment of thousands of federal workers 
     

  • Making it easier to fire workers who engage in collective organizing

RACIAL DISCRIMINATION

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Nullifying the Civil Rights Acts, including protections against discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin 
     

  • Ending birthright citizenship 
     

  • Ending diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs in the workplace

IMMIGRATION

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, including DREAMERS 
     

  • Reducing protections for those seeking asylum to escape human trafficking and domestic or gang violence 
     

  • Constructing temporary tent camps for detaining families and unaccompanied minors at the border 
     

  • Executing ICE raids at previously designated “sensitive zones,” such as schools, playgrounds, hospitals, and churches

CLIMATE AND
THE ENVIRONMENT

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Obstructing and weakening the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through downsizing and restructuring to reduce protections for public health and create delays in climate action 
     

  • Encouraging the hiring of climate-change deniers and assigning them to leadership positions
     

  • Reducing or ending federal funding for research and investment in renewable energy
     

  • Undermining the agency’s ability to monitor toxic substances in the environment

LGBTQ+ RIGHTS

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Removing all federal protections for LGBTQ+ people by eliminating inclusive language in numerous federal regulations
     

  • Promoting a “biblically based social science reinforced definition of marriage and family”
     

  • Restricting workplace protections against discrimination of LGBTQ+ individuals
     

  • Reversing policies that allow transgender people to serve in
    the military

TAXES

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Moving to a consumption tax rather than income tax, which would likely hit lower-income families harder than others
     

  • Reducing the income tax rate on the highest income
    earners while raising tax rates on many low- and middle-
    income families
     

  • Lowering the corporate tax rate to 18%

RETIREES

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Rolling back the federal government’s ability to negotiate lower drug prices
     

  • Making private Medicare Advantage the default option when signing up for Medicare
     

  • Limiting health care options for seniors

VETERANS

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Requiring Veterans Health Administration facilities to increase the number of patients seen each day regardless of the complexity of veterans’ medical issues
     

  • Reducing investment in VA health care campuses
     

  • Revising disability rating awards for future veteran claimants

NATIONAL DEFENSE

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Making “burden-sharing” by other countries a more significant part of U.S. defense strategy
     

  • Abolishing all diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) offices in
    the Pentagon
     

  • Removing from the service anyone  who is predisposed to require medical treatment (e.g., HIV positive, individuals with gender dysphoria)

HEALTH CARE

The Project 2025 plan calls for:

  • Renaming the Department of Health and Human Services as the Department of Life, aligned with a Christian nationalist focus, restricting not only abortion access but also critical family-planning care and reproductive health care
     

  • Eliminating the Affordable Care Act, threatening the health insurance status of more than 20 million Americans
     

  • Placing lifetime caps on Medicaid and establishing stricter Medicaid eligibility, which would put millions of Americans more at risk
     

  • Repealing pieces of the Inflation Reduction Act that could allow pharmaceutical companies to inflate prescription prices and eliminate the cap on insulin prices
